What is out of the furnace filming locations?

Out of the Furnace is a 2013 crime drama film directed by Scott Cooper and stars Christian Bale, Casey Affleck, and Woody Harrelson. The film was primarily filmed in the state of Pennsylvania, with some scenes being shot in other states as well.

The following are some of the notable filming locations:

  • Braddock, Pennsylvania: several scenes were filmed in Braddock, which is a small steel town near Pittsburgh. The opening sequence shows the exterior of the abandoned US Steel Edgar Thompson Works in Braddock. Other scenes took place in local bars and restaurants.

  • Carnegie, Pennsylvania: some of the interior scenes of the Rust Belt Bar & Grill, where the characters hang out, were filmed in the Blue Dust restaurant in Carnegie.

  • North Braddock, Pennsylvania: several scenes were filmed in the residential neighborhoods of North Braddock, including the scene where Rodney (Casey Affleck) fights in a bare-knuckle boxing match.

  • Bruceton Mills, West Virginia: the prison scenes were filmed in the former West Virginia State Penitentiary in Bruceton Mills. This location was also used for filming The Last Castle and Out of Sight.

  • New Jersey: a few scenes were filmed in New Jersey, including the one where Russell (Christian Bale) visits Rodney in a trailer park. This scene was shot in Wallington, NJ.
